Extra View is DStv's multi-room feature: link two or three decoders on one subscription and every TV in the house can watch something different at the same time. Rugby in the lounge, cartoons in the kids' room, a series on the bedroom Explora — one bill, no compromises. It's the single most requested upgrade we install in Kommetjie, and for family homes around Long Beach and holiday houses in Imhoff's Gift it makes an immediate difference to how the house feels.
A proper Extra View installation is more than plugging in a second decoder. The dish needs the right LNB — dual or quad depending on how many decoders you're running and whether an Explora is in the mix. Each viewing point needs its own dedicated RG6 cable run back to the dish or multiswitch; splitters and shortcuts are where cheap installations fail, especially once coastal corrosion gets into the joints. Then the decoders must be linked in the correct primary-secondary configuration and registered with MultiChoice so the Extra View fee activates correctly on your account.
Our accredited technicians handle all of it: LNB upgrade, cabling, decoder linking, account activation, and a full test of every TV before we pack up. Cable runs are clipped neatly along walls or hidden in trunking, drilled entries are sealed against wind-driven rain, and every outdoor connector is weatherproofed against the salt spray that rolls in off the Atlantic.

In most cases, yes. Exploras and current HD decoders link happily; very old models sometimes can't be paired. Tell us what you have when you book and we'll confirm before the visit so there are no surprises on the day.
The linked decoders need power like any TV setup, so an inverter or UPS keeps them running through load shedding. Wind doesn't affect the link itself — and because we torque the dish mount and seal every joint for Kommetjie conditions, a properly installed system holds its signal through the south-easter.
Usually not. If your existing dish is sound, we upgrade the LNB to a dual or quad unit and reuse the dish. If the dish is corroded or undersized (common on older coastal installations), we'll recommend a replacement and quote it upfront.
